Sandy Velasco is an LA-based actor and writer.
Sandy Yu Velasco was born in the Philippines but calls Los Angeles, California her home. After receiving her degree in Mathematics from UCLA, she went against all that is logical and started to pursue a career as an actor and a writer.
Comedy has always been a big part of her life so naturally she surrounded herself with people that made her laugh. She trained at the Lembeck Comedy Workshop, became an improviser through Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB), and even learned sketch writing at UCB. A highlight is her standup comedy debut at the famous Ice House Comedy Club with Cool Beans Comedy. She is a current troupe member of ImprovCity.
In 2014, Sandy created and starred in the award-winning comedy web series, "Miss Guidance" that has screened in numerous film festivals in Canada and cities across the US. Her performance garnered her a nomination for OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS in a comedy at the 2015 LA Web Fest. Her previous writing's also been showcased in shows produced by Hereandnow Theatre Company and Actors At Play.
In addition to film work and her writing, she’s also blessed to be a part of the theater community in LA, working with companies such as, Coeurage Theatre Comany, Artists At Play, Playwrights' Arena, East West Players, Grove Theatre Center and Company of Angels and, has toured all over the US with Hereandnow Theatre Company. One of her acting highlights was playing the lead role in the 2013 world premiere of DALLAS NON-STOP (LA Times Critic's Choice) presented by Playwrights' Arena.
Sandy is a self-proclaimed jill-of-all-trades who spends a lot of time thinking of, "how much is too much chocolate?" and how writing this bio seems oddly similar to writing her online dating profiles in the past. Thank the good Lord, she is now enjoying marital bliss with her new hubby, Mark.
“Living is a form of not being sure, not knowing what next or how. The moment you know how, you begin to die a little. The artist never entirely knows. We guess. We may be wrong, but we take a leap after leap in the dark.”
— Agnes De Mille
